FEDERAL GRANT FOR WINDALE MEN’S SHED

The Federal Member for Shortland, Jill Hall MP, welcomed a $376,011 grant over three years to assist with the establishment and sustainability of men's sheds in the Lake Macquarie and the broader Hunter Valley areas. The Windale Men’s Shed Project, which was initially auspiced by CatholicCare in Newcastle, conducts social and community activities for mature aged men in Windale and the broader community with a view to assisting those who may benefit from the experience and skills gained by the members.

The Windale shed has been able to gain monetary assistance from the grant to support an existing program for the men's shed movement within the area, including a central storage facility where sheds either store tools and equipment for later use or select from a store of excess tools/equipment to assist establishment, at no cost. This latest decision by FaHCSIA (the funding body)regognisers and complements the previous work by members of the Windale men's shed by providing them with the leading role in terms of the Shed Mentoring Project.
